As a theatre, The Mill has gained an outstanding reputation for the quality of its productions. But do you know what goes on behind the scenes? No play is ever brought in from any outside source at any time.
Our Artistic Director reads scores of scripts each year. Each play is carefully selected to please our audiences. Each role is carefully cast. A Director is assigned. Rehearsals take place on the premises in our Rehearsal Rooms. A Production Designer creates the background settings; which are then built in our Workshop - we are one of the few remaining theatres in the UK that can boast its own workshop.
The Stage Management makes any of the speciality props that are required. Our in house Costume designer is every actresses dream with the wonderful and flattering costumes that she creates and makes. And the male actors are not unhappy either. Also we now have our own Make-up school on site run by one of the leading Make-up designers.
As for the restaurant, the same care and consideration goes into our dining experience. Each menu is designed and created in our kitchens. The ethos of home-made and locally sourced food pervades our restaurant. Our meat comes from Caversham butcher Jennings Bros who supply the steak for our famous Steak & Ale Pie. Mouthwatering Bread & Butter Pudding is the other signature dish of our Chefs.
Our newly refurbished bar is now another area of creativity with live music, storytelling, book signings and more. All events are offered with delicious bar snacks all made in our Kitchens. Try our home-made soups, hand-made sausage rolls and tuna melts. Then finish it off with a Barrista Coffee and a yummy tray bake. So pick an event or just come and relax by the riverside and enjoy one of our classic cocktails.
