A Comedy by NEIL SIMON
Directed by ANTHONY
VALENTINE
After the success of PLAZA SUITE last year, The Mill is
delighted to welcome back the magical combination of NEIL
SIMON’s comic genius with the multi-talented ANTHONY VALENTINE
– RAFFLES, COLDITZ, CALLAN. The opening of THE ODD COUPLE
has one of the most hilarious scenes ever to be seen on stage.
It’s Friday night. A gang of friends has gathered to cheer
and to chastise each other – as friends do – to laugh and
to laugh loud. But most importantly to play cards. Poker.
The host is Oscar. His apartment is spacious. But messy. And
when the recently divorced Oscar emerges from the kitchen
with a plate of “brown and green sandwiches” we know that
we are in the home of the slob of slobs. But the sixth member
of the Friday night regulars, Felix, is missing. Felix finally
shows up – baggy eyed and despondent. His wife is divorcing
him. She has thrown him out of the house. Concerned with his
buddy’s welfare, Oscar invites Felix to move in with him.
Mistake! Big mistake! The comedy hots up as Felix wreaks havoc
on Oscar’s slovenly lifestyle. He is constantly tidying, organizing,
cooking, purifying the air and cleaning, cleaning, cleaning.
Oscar finds his roommates’ fastidious habits increasingly
irksome. It all reaches boiling point when Oscar manages to
fix a double date with the fanciable and twittering Pigeon
sisters. And all Felix can do is weep about his ex-wife. THE
ODD COUPLE has to be the legendary Neil Simon’s most fun-packed
and most popular play. A comic masterpiece with uproariously
witty dialogue that guarantees an evening of fun and gales
of joyous laughter.

arrangement with Samuel French Ltd.
