Words by RICHARD HARRIS
Music
by DENIS KING
Directed by ALVIN RAKOFF
If you loved – and who didn’t? – STEPPING OUT and OUTSIDE
EDGE, then you will rejoice in this wonderful new comedy.
RICHARD HARRIS brings his outstanding talents to focus on
love in a ballroom.
Ronald,
a widower for just over a year, finds himself wondering what
the rest of life holds for him. Not that he admits as much
to his two children – he wouldn’t want to worry them. When
his friend Horace tricks him into a night out at a ballroom
dancing Club, he meets Bernadette. She is a regular at the
Club, a vivacious divorcee whose credo is seize the moment.
She firmly informs Ronald that she is not looking for anything
as clichéd as romance. She only wants to dance. Ronald in
turn makes it clear that he doesn’t want to be here at all,
let alone look for love. But Ronald has never met anyone like
Bernadette! And out of these first few stumbling steps, grows
companionship, and then – inevitably – something a lot deeper.
The path of true love is never easy. And as they find out
it’s even trickier when there’s family and a lot of personal
baggage involved – as well as trying to control your two left
feet!
DENIS
KING is the renowned composer of many West End smash hits
as well as more than 100 tv theme tunes from LOVEJOY to THE
ADVENTURES OF BLACK BEAUTY. His songs round off an evening
packed with insight and delicious humour. Audiences will cheer
this tale of life and love and laughter!

TRUDIE
GOODWIN (Sylvia) This is Trudie’s first appearance at The
Mill and she’s delighted to be here. She has spent the last five
months living out of a suitcase doing a national tour of THE NAKED
TRUTH, so is relieved to be in one place for more than a week!
Trudie is probably best known as Sergeant June Ackland in ITV’s
police drama, THE BILL, which she left two years ago. She was
in the original pilot show for the series back in 1983 and very
much enjoyed her time on the programme during which she also appeared
in stage plays at the Theatre Royal, Stratford East, The Tricycle
and The Latchmere in Battersea. Trudie last sang on stage in GODSPELL
at the Young Vic and THE BEGGAR’S OPERA at the Lyric, both in
London. At the beginning of her career, after teaching Drama in
an inner London Comprehensive, she spent a few years doing a variety
of theatre jobs; Theatre in Education, Pub, Fringe and Street
Theatre where she became skilled in escapology and tight-rope
walking ... Interspersed with this were various Repertory Theatre
seasons including a two year stint at the Phoenix Theatre in Leicester
where she met Kit, her husband of thirty years. Her first major
TV role was in a 13 part drama series for Euston Films called
FOX which eventually led to being offered the part of June, a
role she nearly didn’t bother to audition for as she thought she
was so wrong for the part! She lives very happily with Kit in
South London and they have two daughters who still seem to like
them.

She next played Cosette in LES MISERABLES, during which time she
was chosen to sing the role in an excerpt for the Royal Command
Performance. She then played Christine in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
at Her Majesty’s Theatre, and was thrilled to be asked to play
the part when it premiered at the Opera House, Manchester. Between
these West End blockbusters came various other roles such as Cinderella
in INTO THE WOODS at Leicester Haymarket, Girl 1 in SONGBOOK at
the Watermill Theatre, Alice in BLESS THE BRIDE at Sadlers’ Wells,
Emmot in EYAM at The Fire Station, Lisa in THREE DIVAS at Jermyn
Street Theatre, Sonia in GODSPELL at the Barbican Hall, and countless
pantomimes here, there and everywhere! She was support artiste
on tour with Michael Ball, and appeared as a soloist in the VE
DAY celebration concert in Hyde Park. She has performed her one-woman
show in such diverse venues as Pizza on the Park, Palm Beach Casino,
The Green Room, and Little Missenden Village Hall! One of her
most nerve-wracking experiences was singing the National Anthem
at Wembley Stadium before an England match! Lisa has appeared
at The Mill in A NIGHT IN PROVENCE and more recently BIRTHDAY
SUITE. Lisa has 10 year old twins, who take up an inordinate amount
of time and energy, but are still her best production yet!
