A comedy by WILLY RUSSELL
Directed by RON ALDRIDGE
Dennis
Cain is a seemingly respectable middle-class businessman, living
happily with his gormless wife Pauline and their two children
on the affluent Castle Keys Estate. Just one problem. Dennis
is fast approaching his 40th birthday and a mid-life crisis
looms. And strange events are happening as a wave of creative
vandalism hits the conforming community. Garden gnomes are left
decapitated! Venus de Milo statues suddenly sprout arms! And
horror of horrors, Radox foam bath froths from all the fountains!!
Who is this midnight marauder? Could it be our disaffected Dennis
who wants to break away from his hollow, conventional existence
and revert to more carefree days?
The fun begins when the neighbours come round
to discuss the problem and as the evening progresses the true
identity of the suburban anarchist is revealed. Willy Russell
the renowned playwright has penned such delicious comedies as
EDUCATING RITA and BLOOD BROTHERS. Dennis is played by Mill
favourite NICK WILTON and Pauline by the bubbly LYNETTE McMORROUGH,
probably best known for her role as Glenda Barlow in CROSSROADS.
And we are delighted to welcome back director RON ALDRIDGE to
stamp his comic genius on the play. ONE FOR THE ROAD promises
to be a real cracker of an evening with smiles and guffaws aplenty!
The action of the play takes place in the lounge of the Cains
dormer bungalow on a modern housing estate in the north
of England. Time 1979
