A comedy by
NEIL SIMON
Directed by SALLY HUGHES
BAREFOOT IN
THE PARK is probably one of Neil Simon's best known and best loved
plays. A delicious comedy about the teething troubles of a newly
married couple, Paul and Corrie Bratter. After an ecstatic honeymoon
these young love-birds are brought down to earth with a thump as they
learn the complicated art of living together. Over the moon with
happiness, starry-eyed Corrie views their new apartment as heaven -
despite it being ice-cold, with a leaking roof, up five flights of
stairs, and having a roguish Hungarian neighbour, Victor Velasco. On
the other hand, sensible husband and young lawyer Paul, sees the new
home for what it is - impractical and uncomfortable - he just wants a
good night's sleep. What a stuffed shirt! Throw in a few more
ingredients - an uptight widowed mother and Corrie's ill-advised
attempt to pair her off with the romantic but outlandish Victor - and
you have a formula that will pry any twosome into a lonesome onesome.
Can Corrie and Paul's love survive? Add Neil Simon's wonderfully witty
dialogue and you are guaranteed a sparkling evening of fun and
laughter.
By arrangement with Samuel French Limited
The action of the play passes in the Bratters’ apartment
on East 48th Street, New York. Time – 1965
